Engr. Miller C. Tanguilan, General Manager of the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District, recently participated in a workshop on the Water District Development Sector Project (WDDSP) of the Asian Development Bank. The project is composed of three modalities which includes a Loan package, a Technical Assistance and a Grant.

Eleven water districts from all over the Philippines who availed of the loan package attended the workshop. GM Tanguilan was accompanied by other officers of the MTWD involved in the monitoring of the on-going implementation of the District’s Surface Water Treatment Plant, a project financed thru a loan from the Local Water Utilities Administration using the WDDSP loan facility.

The two-day workshop held on June 13-14, 2024 at the ADB headquarters in Mandaluyong City is part of the Technical Assistance package of the WDDSP aimed at enhancing capacities of the water sector agencies not only in the delivery of water services but also in ensuring good practices in project implementation. Topics during the workshop include environment and social safeguards, procurement, financial management and gender. The ADB also presented their current twinning program as a means to enhance capacities of a water district mentee which will be assigned to be mentored by a more developed water district here or abroad.

The workshop is a continuous effort of the ADB during the WDDSP implementation. On July 2023, another workshop was held to verify the status of environment and social safeguards plans of the implementing agencies. The water districts are looking forward to more gatherings particularly on sharing of practices and experiences after project completion.
