In a move to strengthen the reliability and resilience of its water supply systems, the MTWD recently concluded the final inspection of newly completed elevated discharge setup pads with integrated pull-out structures in four sites: Iraga in Solana; Annafunan West and Larion Bajo in Tuguegarao City; and Parabba in Peñablanca. These projects are part of MTWD’s broader efforts to enhance infrastructure for improved water service delivery across its service areas.

The elevated pads which will hold the production well’s discharge setup are designed to protect vital well components from adverse weather conditions, erosion, and flooding. By elevating the discharge set-up above ground level and reinforcing it structurally, it ensures continuous and disaster-resilient operation, especially during typhoons and heavy rains. The integration of pull-out structures into the design also supports more efficient maintenance operations, allowing easier and safer extraction of pump motor and riser pipes which is an innovation that is expected to minimize system downtime and improve operational efficiency.
Among the sites inspected, the Iraga production well in Solana stands out as a key project for the expansion of service coverage area. The production well was completed last year, pipe distribution network is ongoing and the construction of pump house is scheduled this year. Once completed, the Iraga water system is expected to provide much-needed water supply to households and establishments within the barangay.
On the other hand, a new production well within the existing Annafunan West Pumping Station is set to temporarily replace the existing well which will be subjected to major well maintenance. Meanwhile, the third production well in Larion Bajo is currently undergoing testing and commissioning. Once operational, it will help improve water pressure and volume for the eastern portions of Tuguegarao City, particularly from libag to Upper Dadda, which has long experienced low pressure because of its elevation.
Lastly, the new production well in Parabba, Peñablanca, is projected to increase water availability for the northern part of Tuguegarao City, benefitting areas such as Upper Caggay, the Regional Government Center, and Carig. However, the full benefit of this development hinges on the ongoing replacement of distribution lines in Sitio Caronsi, Alimanao, which is currently suspended because of some interference.
The inspection team was led by Engr. Janice R. Cardanas, Assistant General Manager for Technical Services and Operations. She was joined by Engr. Danjoe S. Valdez, Acting Department Manager; Engr. Wilfred D. Calapini, Acting Division Manager of the Construction Division; Engr. Vincent G. Soriano, Division Manager; Engr. Rencis V. Buscas, Acting Division Manager of the Engineering Division; Engr. Michael L. Gonzaga, Acting Division Manager of the Pipeline and Appurtenances Maintenance Division; along with Engr. Randy B. Caccam, Engr. Reymar S. Ligutan, Engr. Jezaniah F. Gacutan, and Ms. Mara Sheidy G. Decena. Mr. Maynard V. Matammu, Acting Division Manager for Corporate Planning and Public Affairs, also participated to document the activity.
The completion of these infrastructure projects marks another step forward in MTWD’s commitment to provide stable, safe, and sustainable water supply to its consumers, while adapting to the challenges posed by rapid urban growth and changing climate conditions.
