A provision of solar energy/power supply for the operation of Cataggaman Pardo Pumping Station 2 of the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District commenced after A Notice to Proceed was issued on May 2023 to a supplier after a competitive bidding. This project is implemented in fulfillment of the District’s commitment to operate efficiently to supply safe, potable and adequate water through the integration of solar power in energizing the production facility. The project also aims to reduce the cost to produce water by decreasing expenses for the power usage from the on-grid electricity.
The contract between the MTWD and the supplier involved the supply of materials, labor, equipment, installation and commissioning for the provision of solar energy/power supply of which will be operated over a period of 10 years. The supplier will be paid for the output of the solar power and will turn over the whole asset after the expiration of contract in 10 years.
This project proves not just the commitment of the MTWD in ensuring the availability of water but also its unwavering support for environmental protection projects. The renewable power source will certainly impact in the reduction of carbon emissions while ensuring increased level of power availability and resilience in the existing power grid. The project construction and installation phase is expected to be completed in April 2024 and will be operational within the 2nd quarter of the year.
