The Cagayan Valley Association of Water Districts, Inc. (CAVAWAD), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District (MTWD), organized a comprehensive Basic Plumbing Course and Skills Proficiency from February 6-7, 2024, in Tuguegarao City.
Engr. Miller C. Tanguilan, CESE, MTWD General Manager and CAVAWAD Treasurer, welcomed all the participating water districts and emphasized the significance of the Basic Plumbing Course to the plumbers and field personnel of the different water districts in the region. He added that the course was organized to address the need to be oriented or re-oriented regarding installations of pipes and leak management and to be equipped with the necessary training and skills in the performance of their functions, duties and responsibilities.
On February 6, 2024, the Basic Plumbing Course commenced at the Audio-Visual Room, 3rd Floor, MTWD Building, drawing participation from thirteen (13) water districts. Expert in-house speakers namely Mr. Isidro Bulaqui, Mr. Elviro Darauay, Engr. Jonjon Escalo and Engr. Ronito Barsabal gave comprehensive discussion on the historical development of plumbing, plumbing terminology, unit measurements, pipe types and materials, standard sizes, dimensions, tools, equipment, and basic personal protective equipment necessary for plumbing tasks. Following the theoretical sessions, on February 7, 2024, the Plumbing Proficiency and Tap and Drill Exercises took place at the Annafunan East Pumping Station, with thirty-eight (38) participants in attendance.
Mr. Aldrin T. Taguinod and Mr. lan Vincent P. Bassig, MTWD participants, emerged as the winners in the Plumbing Proficiency, garnering the highest score of 98.5%. The Top 5 also include other MTWD representatives, Mr. Arthur T Tungcul and Mr. Narciso G. Suyu, Mr. Rodelio T. Tumaliuan and Roy A. Taccad, Mr. Doni T. Apolonio and Jerry M. Danao, ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively. Ilagan City Water District representatives, Mr. Wilson Aguto and Mr. Reny Boy Abad took the 5th place.
From among the Top 5 winners, only one representative from each team competed in the next round of the Plumbing Olympics. MTWD participants, Mr. Rodelio T. Tumaliuan and Mr. Vincent Ian P. Bassig emerged as the winners in the final Tap and Drill Exercise.
The completers of Basic Plumbing Course and the winners of the Plumbing Proficiency and Tap and Drill Exercises were recognized during the awarding ceremony held at the MTWD Building.
In his closing message, Mr. Justito S. Jimenez, CAVAWAD President and General Manager of Tumauini Water District, expressed his profound gratitude to all participating water districts and to MTWD and its employees for generously supporting this endeavor.
The training course aimed to equip plumbers with advanced knowledge and skills, enabling them to excel in executing their duties within their respective water districts.
