The Batang Water Wais is an event conducted by the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District in the observance of the World Water Day which is celebrated every March 22. This program aims to imbibe awareness among children about the importance of water including its deleterious effects for non-observance of water conservation.

Thus, On March 6-9, 2018, the District conducted its fourth Batang Water Wais Event as part of the World Water Day Celebration. This was coordinated with the school principals of the eight (8) selected elementary schools within the three systems (Tuguegarao, Solana and Piat) of MTWD. The selected schools are the following:

  • Villa Rey Elementary School
  • Sampaguita Elementary School
  • Namabbalan Elementary School
  • Capatan Elementary School
  • Cataggaman Nuevo Elementary School
  • Pallua Elementary School
  • Atulayan Elementary School
  • San Gabriel Elementary School

Educational activities were prepared by the committee for the kids to fully participate. Part of this was a set of trivia questions wherein, kids do enjoy answering while learning. The committee also conducted a quiz bee competition and the winner from each school is proclaimed as the 2018 Batang Water Wais.

Truly, this was also an avenue for children to go out of their shells and showcase their talents. The teachers, headed by their principal were also grateful and thankful for choosing their school as partners in promoting awareness about the importance of water. They further retorted that their linkage with the MTWD will continue by indoctrinating in the minds of their pupils the value and importance of water.  Accordingly, the participating pupils also learned a lot on how to conserve water as this will help the world in overcoming the water challenges of the 21st century-that all these will redound not only for their generation but also for the future generation.
