The Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District joined the world in the celebration of the World Water Day on March 22, 2014 with the theme “Water is Power” as directed by the Local Water Utilities Administration through Memorandum Circular No. 001-14 to bring to everyone’s attention the importance of water and its interlinkage with energy.
MTWD’s World Water Day Committee has planned and organized different activities for the week of March 17-23, 2014 to create more impact involving not just the employees but also participants from other agencies. The three main activities done were Climate Change Advocacy Film Viewing, Motorcade and Watershed Conservation Program.
The MTWD has also solicited support from other agencies through hanging of advocacy banners of the World Water Day celebration in their respective Offices. The tarpaulin layout was from the Local Water Utilities Administration which is uniform for all the local water districts in the country.
The final part of the program was the Commitment Wall Signing wherein representatives of the different agencies have expressed their commitment in conserving water in their own Offices through sharing of best practices and signing in the advocacy banner. The banner shall be hung in the MTWD Office so that concessionaires would know that government agencies are one in the commitment of saving water and saving energy.
Engr. Janice Cardenas, as a representative of the MTWD during the sharing of commitments have stated the thrust of the district in protecting our Water Sources for the benefit of the public and to ensure water sustainability.
MOTORCADE AND SHORT PROGRAM
On March 22, 2014, MTWD was one in the simultaneous celebration in the world through the conduct of a Motorcade which aims to generate more attention to the existence of World Water Day and to disseminate the importance of water as well as the present projects of the Water District.
The Motorcade which started at exactly 7:00 in the morning was participated by twelve (12) government agencies which had brought with them their own Official Vehicles and tarpaulins to show support to the District. The agencies who h ad given overwhelming support are the Department of Agrarian Reform RO2; Department of Interior and Local Government RO2; PhilHealth Insurance Corporation RO2; Department of Social Welfare and Development RO2; Bureau of Fire Protection RO2; City Government of Tuguegarao; Department of Health RO2; Department of Agriculture RO2; Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board RO2; Philippine Information Agency RO2; Land Transportation Office RO2 and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
After the Motorcade, a short program followed to acknowledge the presence of the participants and to formally disseminate the message of this year’s World Water Day Celebration.
The program was hosted by Mr. Jose Mari Quinan and Ms. Erika Castillejo who had thrown trivia questions to participating agencies with corresponding company giveaway prizes like tumblers, umbrellas and fans. Trivia about Water and the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District were formulated to educate and inform participants on the importance of conserving water and energy and the essence of the existence of the District.
The General Manager has also given a short message in relation to the celebration and this year’s theme: Water is Power. He also acknowledged the support of the participants who had stayed even after the motorcade.
