The Davao City Water District conducted a seminar-workshop with a theme “Navigating HGDG: Bridging Theory with Practice” at Pinnacle Hotel & Suites in Davao City on October 23 – 25, 2024. The main goal of the seminar is to create comprehensive project documents that incorporate the elements of Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG).
In an effort to gain practical guidance on gender-fair language and ensure gender fairness and equality in the workplace and in the community, the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District conducted Seminar on Gender Fairness/Equality: “Communicating the Language of GAD in the Workplace and in the Community”. The seminar was held on May 11-12, 2023, and May 25-26, 2023, at Playa Tropical Resort in Curimao, Ilocos Norte. A total of 250 MTWD employees attended the seminar. The participants were divided into two batches, allowing for more focused and interactive sessions. In his opening message, General Manager Engr. Miller C. Tanguilan, CESE emphasized the need of government agencies for practical guidance on gender-fair language to ensure and promote gender sensitivity and inclusivity not only within the workplace but also in the broader community. Engr. Tanguilan also highlighted the importance of learning the language of GAD, which encompasses inclusive and respectful communication practices that promote fairness, equality, and mutual understanding. He acknowledged that gender disparities persist and hinder progress, and addressing them requires a collective effort. He also hopes that the learning and development activity would strengthen the bond and connection of the MTWD family. Professor Maria Rachel G. Miguel, an esteemed Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist from the Philippine Commission on Women- National GAD Resource Pool and a Professor from Cagayan State University, Carig Campus, graced the seminar as the resource speaker. With her extensive expertise and deep understanding of gender issues, Prof. Miguel delivered insightful and thought-provoking sessions throughout the seminar. Also, through engaging sessions, the participants were able to gain practical tools and strategies to promote gender fairness and equality in their professional and personal lives. The District’s initiative to organize this seminar reflects its commitment to fostering an environment where all employees, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute to the District’s success. By equipping its workforce with the necessary knowledge and skills, MTWD aims to build a workplace culture that embraces diversity, promotes equal opportunities, and ensures a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Moving forward, through the esteemed leadership of GM Tanguilan and the unwavering support of the Board of Directors, the MTWD’s Gender and Development Focal Point System plans to continue organizing such events and increase awareness around gender-related issues. Ultimately, the District envisions a society where gender disparities are eradicated, and everyone can participate and excel on an equal footing, both in the workplace and in the wider community.
